I have presented professional in-service programs to librarians and teachers in Texas and Arkansas.  I created, organized, and presented two years of Media Magicians' seminars sponsored by the continuing education department of the Tomball, Texas, campus of the Lone Star Community College system. In 2006, the Media Magicians' seminar moved to Educational Resources of Houston, Texas. At the 2008 Texas Library Conference, I presented to the largest group of workshop attendees including 275 librarians and publishers. At the 2010 Texas Library Conference I presented to over 200 librarians. At the 2011 AASL conference I presented to an SRO workshop. My goal is to share, demonstrate, and teach ready-to-use activities, lessons, and programming for the library and/or the classroom.

Staff Development Presentations for Librarians/Teachers: Grades PreK - 5   includes an outline with objectives, ready-to-use lessons, and activities that incorporate fiction and nonfiction books and some, if not all, of these elements: discussion, question and answer strategies, songs, puppetry, storytelling, reader's theaters, role playing, diverse perspectives, graphic organizers, and games.  A recommended bibliography with  books, multimedia, and websites completes the outline.

You can customize the in-service to address your needs.  If there is a topic(s) of specific interest not listed, please contact  akirkham4u@hotmail.com to discuss incorporating the information into the presentation.
